Waste Management of Canada Corporation (WM) owns and operates the Petrolia Landfill Site, which is a solid non-hazardous waste landfill site located at 4052 Oil Heritage Road in the Town of Petrolia, County of Lambton, Ontario. To enable WM to manage its municipal solid waste disposal commitments, WM completed a study to obtain approval from the Ministry of the Environment to consolidate the two approved waste streams into a single waste stream with a service area of the Province of Ontario. No increases to the combined daily or annual maximums for waste disposal are proposed.
The study concluded that there would be no negative environmental effects from the waste consolidation and service area adjustment to the Province of Ontario. Advantages include an improved effectiveness of the gas generation and management system for energy from waste at the landfill site and the improved management of non-hazardous solid municipal waste within southwestern Ontario. Protection of the environment at the landfill site would be continued.
