Ontario Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program

The Ontario Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program (MFTIP) recognizes the importance of privately owned forests in Ontario. The goal of the program is to bring greater fairness to the property tax system by valuing forestland according to its current use. Landowners who apply and qualify for the program will have the eligible portion of their property classified and assessed as Managed Forest under the Managed Forest property class. The eligible land is taxed at 25% of the municipal tax rate set for residential properties. This significant savings encourages landowners to create and implement Managed Forest Plans which benefit the health of the forest, and the ecosystem as a whole.

To be eligible for the program, your woodlot must cover at least 9.88 acres (4 ha) and be owned by a Canadian citizen.

Effectively managing your forest resources will not only emphasize the natural beauty of a property, but it will also increase its use by wildlife species, increase property value, and ensure the health of the forest.

If you see your property as a home for wildlife, a place for recreation, a source of income, or a combination of these and other values, a Managed Forest Plan will help you fully realize the values most important to you. Jagger Hims Limited has qualified and experienced professionals who can guide you through the process of creating a Managed Forest Plan and the application process. Our Certified Managed Forest Plan Approvers will consult with you to create a plan that is right for you. We ensure the plan is accurate and appropriate for the program through an on-site visit, and take into account your present and future needs.
